| Legal Seven Family Apartment House
Featured in Newsday's Home of the Week Column
The history of this Victorian residence traces back to the 1700s, when Queens shoemaker John Roe occupied it with his family.
Three centuries later, the house, which has retained much of its original structure, has been converted into a legal seven-family dwelling. The foundation is of stone and exposed indigenous timber, while the siding and roof are of wood frame and shingle, noted Dennis Consalvo, listing agent at Aliano Real Estate in Hauppauge.
Three apartment units are on the first floor, and four additional units - each with a bedroom, bath and kitchen - are on the second floor.
A stained-glass windowed front door with an antique doorknob and wrap-around porch highlight the house, which faces Main Street and is two blocks from Port Jefferson Harbor.

A Horse Lovers' Enclave
Featured in Newsday's Home of the Week Column
Surrounded by acres of sprawling equestrian estates, this colonial style residence was designed by California architect Scott Gardner and built by his son Robert, who completed construction six years ago for the current owners.
The house is clad in cedar, with a hip-and-gable roof and is set off from a private road by a long curved drive. A double-height foyer with spiral staircase opens to a formal dining room on one side and a formal living room om the other. The two-story family room features a brick fireplace and sliding glass doors that open onto a rear blue stone patio.
The residence, which contains four bedrooms, including a first floor master suite with patio, and 2.5 baths, is ideal for a "horse-loving family", noted Dennis Consalvo, listing agent at Aliano Real Estate in Hauppauge.
